If you know me, you know that I like a well made beer. I am very partial to European styles, with my favorite beer city being Munich. In fact, my top two beers both hail from that city. Today, there are many solid American brews as well. However, some of my favorites can still be hard to find. Here are places where you can find the good stuff.
Places to buy beer
- Norm’s Beer and Wine – a local hole in the wall that shines for great products, no matter how obscure. He stocks Augustiner, but I’ve turned enough people on to it that his stocks frequently run low.
136 Branch Rd SE
Vienna, VA 22180 - Rodman’s – a gourmet grocery store. Washington has less rules on what can be sold (no distributors required), so he has some stuff like Kronenbourg Blanc that Norm’s just can’t get. Skip the Maryland location – more restrictive rules than Virginia mean mediocre selection.
5100 Wisconsin Ave NW
Washington, DC 20016 - Total Wine – I spent years turned off to this store since the beer selection in Fairfax isn’t very good. Then I went to the McLean location. Much better. They even had Augustiner!
1451 Chain Bridge Rd
McLean, VA 22101 - Whole Foods – selection varies by location. Vienna location generally has at least one beer from four of the six Munich breweries. Falls Church location not as good for beer.
143 Maple Ave E
Vienna, VA 22180 - Wegman’s – I do love me some Wegmans. They generally have a decent selection and good prices.
11620 Monument Dr
Fairfax, VA 22030 - Costco – selection can vary a lot, but I’ve been able to buy a case of Paulaner there before. Prices can’t be beat.
4725 West Ox Rd
Fairfax, VA 22030
